The Merchant of Venice: Act IV sc i - Portia

`PORTIA
The quality of mercy is not strain'd,                     Mercy is easy and it doesent cause strain
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven        It is easy as a drop of rain
Upon the place beneath: it is twice blest;            Falling to the ground, it blesses Two
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:      I bless the person who is given mercy and the one showing mercy
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes            The strongest of them all ( Mercy is the best character trait
The throned monarch better than his crown;       Mercy is stronger that the kinga and between go and king, mercy can make you better than a king and closer to God
His sceptre [MNK1] shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty,
temporary, you can be rememberd
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;
But mercy is above this sceptred sway;
It is enthroned in the hearts of kings,
It is an attribute to God himself;
And earthly power [MNK2] doth then show likest God's
When mercy seasons justice. Therefore, Jew,
Though justice be thy plea, consider this,
That, in the course of justice, none of us
Should see salvation: we do pray for mercy;[MNK3]
And that same prayer doth teach us all to render
The deeds of mercy. I have spoke thus much
To mitigate the justice of thy plea;
Must needs give sentence 'gainst the merchant there.[MNK4]

Is it cruel to keep animals in cages?

It is most definitely cruel to keep any animal confined in cages. An animal is so carefree in its own environment. It knows of no restrictions. It goes about its own business of eating and drinking. Even domestic animals would like to walk about and act according to their instincts and desires. Caging them would deprive them of this. How often have we seen caged animals attempt to escape from their cage? Can we imagine the frustration that they feel? What do we get in making a creature frustrated but we do it all the time. If we think it would be cruel if we got caged, why should we do it to other animals?

Besides being cruel, is it relay necessary in caging animals. It would be much more pleasurable to see the animal in its natural habitat, opposed to a small cramped cage. Some animals have died just from the conditions that their cages have been kept in. imagine you resting in your own filth, if we wouldn’t like it then why should we keep animals in cages?

If animals are kept in cages they are not taught how to fend for themselves if they are released into the wild. There for how can an animal such as a lion be recognised as a hunter if it does not have the necessary skills in order to fend for them self’s in the wild, therefore they will eventually die from starvation, dehydration, or being attacked by another animal.

If an animal for example is caught and caged, brought into a warm climate, the polar bear will proberbally not be able to adapt to the warmer climate therefor it could possibly die from the rapid change of climate, therefor making a rare species of animal, even rarer to see in the wild, therefor taking the species one step closer to extinction.

In conclusion I am against caging animals as it is cruel and takes away their rights. Some animals die just from the conditions of their cage, while other animals that have been caged may not have been taught how to fend for themselves in the wild, and if they are released they could die from not being taught these critical skills.
